Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Tshwane (BEST)

The objectives of the project are to study patterns in urban biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services, and how people’s experience of biodiversity influences their perceptions.  The research aims to improve local landscape performance through planting design innovation that could be more sustainable, enhance biodiversity, address aspects of climate adaptation, and improve people’s physical and psychological health and well-being. The project identifies the role of native and other species in fostering a connection between people and place, and the relations people have with nature that could inspire nature-base design solutions. .
